In-App Notifications
The notification center is part of the LinkForty Cloud dashboard. Self-hosted Core deployments do not include it.
The bell icon in the dashboard header is your notification center. It is where LinkForty tells you about new features and improvements without sending an email, and where you can catch up on anything you missed.
The bell
The bell sits in the header on every dashboard page. When you have unread notifications, a badge shows the count (up to 9, then 9+). The badge refreshes about once a minute and whenever you return to the tab.
Click the bell to open a popover with your five most recent notifications. Each entry shows its title, how long ago it was published, and, when there is somewhere to go, the name of the link (for example Read the write-up). Unread entries are shown in bold with a dot beside them.
Opening the popover does not mark anything as read. Only clicking an entry does.
When you click an entry:
- It is marked as read and the badge count drops.
- If the notification links to a page on the LinkForty website, that page opens in a new tab so you stay in the dashboard.
- If it links to a dashboard page (for example your links list or a settings page), you are taken there in the same tab.
- If it has no link, nothing else happens.
The popover also has a View preferences link to your notification settings and a View all link to the full inbox.
The inbox
Notifications in the dashboard (/notifications) is the full inbox. It has two tabs:
- Unread shows only what you have not opened yet.
- All shows everything that is still current, read or not.
Clicking a row does the same thing as clicking an entry in the bell: it marks the notification read and follows its link, if it has one.
Two actions are available from the inbox that are not in the bell:
- Mark all read in the header marks every unread notification as read in one step. It is disabled when there is nothing unread.
- Dismiss removes a single notification from your inbox for good. Hover over a row (or tab to it) and click the X at the right-hand end. Dismissing is per person: it hides the notification for you and no one else in your workspace.
Notifications also leave the inbox on their own after a while. Product announcements stay for 90 days after they are published unless the announcement sets a different expiry, so the All tab is a rolling view of recent news rather than a permanent archive.
Who sees a notification
Product announcements go out to everyone at once, but not every announcement is for every account. An announcement can be limited to:
- Certain plans, so a note about a Business-plan feature is only shown to workspaces on plans that include it.
- Certain roles, so a note aimed at workspace owners and admins is not shown to viewers.
The filtering happens on the server. If an announcement is not meant for you, it is never sent to your browser.
You also only see announcements published after your account was created. An announcement is news to the people who were around when it went out. A new account starts with an empty inbox rather than a backlog of items about a version of the product it never used.
Turning notifications off
Go to Settings → Notifications (/settings/notifications), or click View preferences in the bell. Under In-App Notifications, the Product updates toggle controls whether announcements appear in your bell and inbox. Turn it off and they disappear from both, and the badge count no longer includes them. Turn it back on and anything still current reappears.
This toggle is independent of the Product updates toggle under Email Notifications. You can have announcements in the dashboard, by email, both, or neither.
Product updates are the only type of notification delivered in-app today. The other in-app toggles on the same page are reserved for notification types that are planned but not yet delivered.
